From Core SAFe to AI-Native SAFe®
The classic SAFe® Framework for scaling agility in large enterprises is now referred to as “Core SAFe”. It continues to serve as the foundation for organizations seeking to establish Lean-Agile principles across teams, products, and portfolios.
AI-Native SAFe® takes it a step further: Artificial intelligence is not viewed as a supplementary tool, but as an integral part of the organization, product development, and value creation.
That is a significant difference.
“AI-native” does not simply mean providing employees with an AI chatbot. Rather, what matters most is how AI transforms collaboration, roles, development processes, and decision-making structures.
This brings new questions to the forefront:
- How is AI changing the work of teams and individual roles?
- What role do AI-powered and agent-based systems play in product development?
- How can companies meaningfully integrate AI into existing value streams?
- What impact does the increasing use of AI have on flow, quality, and time-to-market?
- How must leadership, portfolio management, and governance respond to these changes?
AI-Native SAFe® aims to provide a structured framework for addressing these questions.
The new AI-Native SAFe® Big Picture
Until now, the new AI-Native SAFe® Big Picture was initially available in a first version. It could be accessed via the “AI-Native SAFe” section at Big Picture.
Since then, interest in these new concepts has continued to grow. It is already clear today that AI-Native SAFe® should be understood not as a finished end state, but rather as a journey toward a new form of digital and agile value creation.
This comes as little surprise. The field of artificial intelligence is evolving at a remarkably rapid pace. New models, agents, and applications emerge in short cycles. A framework that aims to effectively address AI must therefore remain capable of learning and evolving on its own.

At the same time, the technology itself is evolving rapidly. What is considered best practice today may already be outdated tomorrow.
For companies, this means that the focus should not be on introducing every new AI feature as quickly as possible. Rather, it is crucial to develop an understanding of where AI actually creates value and how it can be sustainably integrated into the way an organization operates and develops products.
This is precisely where we see one of the central roles of AI-Native SAFe®.
