Planning and delivery of SAFe® training for a German automotive group
The customer
The client is a German automobile manufacturer with a global presence.
Initial situation
As part of the company-wide agile transformation and the associated implementation of the SAFe® scaling framework, KEGON—a leading SAFe® training provider—was commissioned to deliver the accompanying SAFe® training programs across the entire group.
The client’s point of contact is the in-house Learning Center, which is responsible for managing and coordinating the group’s entire training portfolio.
The KEGON solution
Following a thorough needs assessment across the departments, a comprehensive training program was developed to cover foundational concepts and specific roles within SAFe®, and it has been made available for registration via the internal learning management system.
The training sessions conducted include:
- Leading SAFe®
- SAFe® PO/PM
- SAFe® Scrum Master
- SAFe® for Teams
- SAFe® DevOps
- SAFe® APM
- SAFe® RTE
- SAFe® LPM
- Implementing SAFe®
During regular coordination meetings, the training schedule was continuously adjusted throughout the year and updated as needed.
In total, 87 in-house training sessions have been conducted since 2024 under the framework agreement, training approximately 1,300 people. In addition, employees had the option to attend public training sessions offered by KEGON as needed.
The client was also advised on a practical training roadmap as well as the content and focus areas of the individual SAFe® training sessions. The training participants came from all areas of the company, primarily from the software division, but also from hardware, finance, human resources, and management.
The challenge
Teams spread across the globe presented a particular challenge. By adjusting training schedules, KEGON was able to organize training sessions that spanned different time zones. This made it possible to accommodate the need to train team members from Asia to North America in a single session—which had a positive impact on the sense of camaraderie within the teams.
Conclusion
To ensure that the training sessions were as beneficial and in-depth as possible for the participants, KEGON SPCs—who had already been advising and coaching the client during the transformation—were typically brought in. This allowed the sessions to address specific day-to-day challenges as well as concrete aspects of the SAFe® implementation.
The framework agreement was extended for an additional two years, beyond 2024.
